Vitter Statement on Anniversary of September 11
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today issued the following statement remembering the eighth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
“On the eighth anniversary of the attacks on America, we again pause to remember the thousands of lives lost on that day. The tragedy of September 11 still weighs so very heavily on our country, and as we mourn with the families and friends who lost loved ones, we pray that we also help shoulder some of their burden of loss.
“Today we honor those who gave their lives on that day the firefighters, police and paramedics who ran into the flames even as the towers came down; the soldiers, airmen, seamen and marines at the Pentagon; the workers at the World Trade Center and the passengers on the four planes that will forever remain part of our national grief.
“Many of the stories of heroism on September 11, 2001 have now become legend, and many of them will never be known. No witnesses are left to attest to the final acts of courage and selflessness by so many of our fellow Americans. Today we remember them all, and we pray for the families and friends they left behind. For their courage, spirit and sacrifice, we owe them all a debt we cannot possibly repay,” said Vitter.
